Research areas Design and synthesis of nanostructure systems, involving the controlled synthesis, arrangement and assembly, mechanism exploration, and performance research of nanomaterials (including nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes, and nanobelts) and nanoporous materials: 1.Controlled growth and mechanism research of nanomaterials 2.Application of low-dimensional nanomaterials in small molecules detection and development of new sensors 3.Controlled synthesis of oxide mesoporous materials and their catalytic application 4.Preparation and application of carbon-based nanomaterials Courses Laboratory Experiments in College Chemistry Experiments in Materials Science and Engineering Education and research experience: Nanjing University Department of Materials Science and Engineering Associate professor → professor 2006 - present Penn State University Materials Research Institute Visiting research associate 2003 - early 2006 Fudan University Department of Chemistry PhD in physical chemistry 2000 - 2003 University of Science and Technology of China Department of Materials Science and Engineering Master’s in materials chemistry 1997 - 2000 University of Science and Technology of China Department of Materials Science and Engineering Bachelor’s in materials chemistry 1992 - 1997 Professor Gao’s research interests lie in the synthesis and application of new mesoporous materials and the controlled synthesis and assembly of low-dimensional nanomaterials. In multiple sponsored research programs he took charge of or participated in, Gao has successfully applied mesoporous materials to the preparation of biological chromatography and nanomaterials. Based on soft and hard templates such as mesoporous materials, surfactants and biomolecules, he has synthesized nanomaterials of different shapes, appearances, structures and arrangements through hydrothermal, solvothermal, and microwave heating. Professor Gao has published 60 papers on various famous international and Chinese SCI journals including Angewandte Chemie (International Edition), Advanced Materials, Nano Letters and Chemical Communications. Forty-two of them have an impact factor higher than 3. He is the first author or corresponding author of 31of them. Those published works have aroused broad interest and have been cited for over 2,300 times. Among them, 2140 citations were made by others and 10 papers have received 100+ citations individually. Gao has applied for 5 patents as the first applicant and won the nomination prize of 2005 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertations. |
