Research in high polymer materials and polymer composites:

  • Biodegradable polymer medical materials

  • Nanostructured polyion complexes

  • Polymeric nanoscale drug carriers

  • Non-viral nano gene carriers

  • Nanocalcium phosphate material for bone tissue engineering


Achievements:

  • Co-authored over 40 papers published on renowned international journals including Angewandte Chemie (International Edition), Advanced Materials, Biomaterials, Biomacromolecules, Journal of Controlled Release and Chemistry Communications, with a total of over 1,000 citations (three of the papers each with over 100 citations)

  • Is applying for six invention patents

  • Holding one international patent for nanomaterials for rapid hemostasis (US 60/479,096)

  • Served as project leader sponsored by multiple national natural science funds for research on polymer composites, especially nano-coating composites and adhesives for special use

  • Won the Class II Application Award of the National Science and Technology Progress Award conferred by the Ministry of Education in 2010 for the project (in cooperation with enterprises) “High-Performance Nano Protective Coating Technology for Metal Surfaces and Related Application”

  • Was a Humbolt Research Fellow at University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany for one year under the sponsorship of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

  • Serving as a member of the editorial board of Advanced Powder Technology
